The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) introduced candidates for four constituencies – Khar-Yurung in Pemagatshel, Gelephu, Phuentsholing and Drujegang-Tzeza in Dagana, last week.
Party officials say that the party is roping in both young and experienced candidates to reflect the demographic composition of the country.
With the announcement of the four candidates, DPT general secretary Ugyen Dorji said that there are about four seats to be filled.
Former principal Tshering Choden from Yurung gewog is the party’s candidate from Khar-Yurung constituency in Pemagatshel. Zangley Dukpa, the incumbent MP will not be contesting from the constituency due to the age limit.
The 46-year-old has worked for 19 years in the education sector and three years in the private sector. She has a Masters degree in education and has worked as a principal for 13 years and six years as teacher.
Tshering runs a business today. “She brings along rich and valuable professional experiences of working both in the government and private sectors, which will provide an added impetus to the already existing pool of expertise in the field of education and private sector development,” states a press release from the party.
Pema Tashi, 33, from Sershong gewog is the DPT candidate from Gelephu constituency in Sarpang. He had come second in the recently concluded National Council election.
He holds a postgraduate diploma in national law from the Royal Institute of Management at Semtokha and B.A.LLB from Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri College of Law, India’s Calcutta University.
He has a work experience of 10 years in various fields. “His diverse working experience, dynamism and advanced knowledge on legal subjects will greatly strengthen our resolve to serve the TsaWa Sum with added zest and vigour,” the press release from the party states.
The candidate for Phuentsholing constituency of Chukha is 30-year-old Tashi from Phuentsholing gewog.
Tashi has been working as an educated farmer since his graduation in 2011. He has a Bachelor’s degree in commerce from North Bengal University, India.
“His innate love and affinity for his native community makes him a natural choice for the people of his constituency,” the party states.
Migma Dorji, 28, from Largyab will contest from Drujegang-Tseza constituency in Dagana.
He worked in a private firm as an electronic engineer since his graduation in 2014. He had also participated as a gup candidate in the 2016 local government elections.
He has a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering from Brindavan College of Engineering in Karnataka, India.
“His youthful dynamism coupled with enthusiasm to work for the cause of the general public makes him an ideal candidate for the people of his constituency,” the party’s press release states.
